Isn't It Ironic? Don't Ya Think?

Finding it so strange that the cat that found my then fiance after his malignant melanoma surgery and seemed to want to nuture him and heal him is now suffering from the same. Poor kitty had skin cancer on her ear and had it taken off last Friday.  Brad doesn't even like cats that much. This cat seems to have an affinity for him though. She found him. She moved in with us and now 11 years later we find ourselves taking care of her like she cared for Brad. Hmmm. Makes me think.... just how ironic that is.

Some things are just meant to be. Oh Kitty :(

11 Months!

Our Miss Olive is 11months old today!

So far her favorite things to do are:
1. Sneek off and eat dog food and play in dog water (yuk!)
2. Destroy anything her brother has built
3. Play (pull the fur) off the dog/cat
4. Say "pupee" (puppy) and "woof woof"

 I just love this girl!

Other things from the last week....Dane had a 4 day episode of high fever :(  We've had a strange round of illness run through the house but he's better now.  The cat had her left ear amputated due to skin cancer. I snapped a picture of her yesterday after we brought her home from the vet so I'll get that posted later this weekend. Poor thing.

Just a Reminder

Just a few weeks ago I had a patient gently scold me for complaining of the lack of sleep I'm getting these days as he himself is struggling with his own children growing up and needing him less.

He asked me this ..."Do you plan on having more children?" and urged me to think about this to help me get through this time "Because if you don't plan to just remember that this may be the last time you get to hold a baby in the middle of the night and soothe her."

Every night since then I've thought about those words. As this will probably be our last child. I may never get to rock my baby back and forth and never get to nurse her back to sleep. I may never get to run my fingers through her downy soft hair, and graze my lips across her baby soft cheeks or reach out my finger and have her grasp it into her tiny little fist.

I vow to cherish and savor every minute of this time with Olive for it may be my last.

* I wrote this when Olive was only 4 months old and had saved it into my Drafts folder and then forgot about it. Stumbled upon it last weekend and it still brings tears to my eyes. This was the fastest year. Now Olive sleeps through the night and is so active during the day that we don't get to just cuddle as much as we used too.   I miss the baby stage already :(

Lil' Mama

Olive has a nickname. I call her "Lil' Mama" or just  "Mama".
Mostly cause she reminds me so much of myself.

Dang she's cute!

Because I'm such a planner I've already got her birthday invites and party supplies ordered. Can you believe she's almost 11 months?!

Remember that old chair I had? Pretty rough huh?

Picking Up The Pieces

Shortly after my last post all hell broke loose here at the Grimes household. There was vomit and diarrhea just flying from Dane and Olive. It wasn't pretty. My poor babes. AND then it caught up to me..... I guess it was to be expected. I haven't ever been puked on that many times.  I called off work Monday and Brad so kindly took the kids to my moms so I could recover.  The good news is that it was only a 24 hour bug and we all recovered pretty quickly. Or so I thought.  Dane broke out with another episode Tuesday evening but was again fine when he woke up Wed. The real story lies with Miss Olive. She never did really recover. We thought she had, she seemed fine during the day. Still not eating much but she wasn't vomiting and her poops seemed to be relatively normal. However, In the middle of the night she's wake up and vomit and then just cry her little heart out.  Very Puzzling.  I am concerned. I can tell she's lost weight. She's much lighter and she's not having many pee diapers (cause she isn't eating or drinking much at all)  Worried about dehydration I call the Dr. for an appointment and here is what he says.

"Sometimes when a baby has the flu it can throw her digestion, acids and enzymes off and so it takes them longer to regulate and recover. When she lays down at night she may be experiencing some acid relux which is causing her to vomit. Let's take her off all dairy.  No milk based formula, no cheese, no yogurt.  Let's place her on soy formula and or Lactaid milk and prescribe her an acid reducer to help."

and ya know what...... It seems to be working. She slept all night! No puking! I am so relieved. The hard part is getting her to take that medicine. Eww. It must be gross. She makes the worst faces. Spits it out. Cries when she even sees me aproaching with the syringe. Poor babe.

So today I am trying to pick up the pieces from a very busy rough week. Laundry, dishes, floors, bathrooms, etc.  Oh and did I mention that I also had class in Lima Tues and Thurs evenings after work from 6-9pm! Geez. Thank god I have the most amazing husband who is THE BEST father.

So on a lighter note! Check this out!! I purchased this adorable yellow lace romper for Olive to wear in her 1 year pics. Yellow is definitly her color, can't wait to see her in it!

This is what is looks like on a child. ADORABLE.

*Ok. Off to take the cat to the vet. Eat lunch. Put kids down for naps. Clean house more. Head to Russels Point to pick up the chair I had reuphoulsterd (yea, so excited to see it all finished!) Busy day here.

Date Night

Dane and I went out on a date Friday night. Thanks to Jen for thinking of us and inviting us along to see The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe at The Holland Theatre with her and
I made Brad take our picture before we left. He's such a big boy now.
Yes. I'm wearing glasses now vs. contacts. Just giving my eyes a rest and I actually quite like them.

Easter Cutie

So here's Olive in her Easter dress. It's a Harajuko Mini dress that I'd gotten at Target several months ago. I just love this line of kids clothes that Gwen Stefani designed. Not a 'typical' Easter dress and that's why I liked it. Cute and Quirky. Turned out it was just perfect to have long sleeves. It was a chilly day.

I also have my eye on this cute little dress. Wouldn't she look ADORABLE!?

And More Eggs

Our Easter egg hunt at The Peterson's.
Tanner lifts Dane up to show him where his egg was hidden.
Then Tate monkey's his way up there to retrieve it.
Can you see Tate in this pic? Wise guys hid my egg up super high too.
At least he didn't make me scale the tree to retrieve it.
Ok. That's pretty much it for the Easter weekend pictures. I have one more to showcase of Miss Olive in her Easter dress. I'll post that in a couple days.

Olive @ 9 months

JCPenney Photos you really suck. This was the worst photo experience we've ever had. Normally it's not a terrible experience but it's not the best. With Dane we always managed to get decent pictures and had a variety to choose from. This time we had a different "photographer". She was AWFUL! Now granted Olive was not exactly thrilled to be having her picture taken but this lady was the worst. She honestly took about 10 pictures. That's it! Never going back. NEVER.
Thank god my friend who is a great photographer agreed to take Olive's 1 year pics.
I can't handle another studio photo factory.
Anyways. Olive is still the cutest.

Seriously, This is the wierdest crop. Don't ya think?
Really late on showing these off due to that scanner issue I was having.
She's actually 10 months now.

Circa 1984?

Finally figured out my scanner and was able to get these oldies but goodies scanned into the computer.
I'm gonna say these are from 1984 because I look 2ish but I'm not 100% sure on that. Here's my late Grandpa Slemmons holding me with my Uncle Brian (my dad's brother) standing beside us. This picture makes me want to ball my eyes out. Oh how I miss this man.
And check out that blonde curly hair I have.
Standing in my Grandma's kitchen proudly wearing my Grandpa's hat.
My cousins and me. I'm the one holding the sock monkey :)

The Kiddies

Just some outdoor play from a couple weeks ago when it was unseasonably warm.

The Girls. Juno & Olive.

Olive wants Dane's water bottle.
And she's determined to get it!
Uh, Oh. She's turned her attention towards me. Here she comes!
